WHAT IS THE DISCOVERY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ WORKSHOP?

Your children did not attend school last Friday November 19th because all Discovery School Teachers were at the Discovery School Teachers’ Workshop!
For the past 10 years, Discovery School has taken the lead in the community by organizing a workshop designed for teachers. Due to the limited staff development opportunities in Honduras, the workshop has evolved in a much anticipated and successful annual event. Around 400 teachers from all over the country join in a two day intensive setting, sharing their successes and expertise in the classroom. The main focus in this event lies in staying true to one of Discovery School’s fundamental beliefs: hands-on learning. No lectures, no master discourses or dissertations- it’s all about teachers coming together to learn by doing what they themselves have done and will be implementing in the classrooms.
Each annual event has had a specific theme, topic or distinct signature: Behavior Management, Assessment, Differentiation and ADHD to mention a few. The 2010 Workshop offered teachers and administrators a chance to rediscover “The Joy of Teaching”, which was the theme for this year. The inauguration of the two day event was enhanced by the participation of the Discovery School Choir in the opening ceremony; and by the fun raffle during the closing ceremony thanks to all the Discovery School parents who donated gifts from their businesses.

BAY ISLANDS TRIATHLON
TRIATHLON EN ISLAS DE LA BAHIA
The new official date is January 23, 2011. I hope you can still come race this epic course, said to be one of the top 5 most challenging courses in the world. We have secured a main sponsor, and we’re now confident that we will be able to organize a great quality event for you, your friends, and family.
We are planning on a weekend of activities for you, and your families. Friday 21st registration and opening ceremony. Saturday 22nd: Kids beach run, where kids run free of charge, ages 5 to 14. Mini Corporate Triathlon, where your family members can participate free of charge for some of our corporations who won’t have enough members to complete their relay teams. Distances are ultra short for anybody even kids to complete.
On Sunday January 23rd, race starts promptly at 7:30 am. Wave information and updates to our schedules will soon follow on our website.http://www.bayislandstriathlon.com/

Se esta planeando un fin de semana de actividades para ti y tu familia. El Viernes 21se abriran las inscripciones y será la ceremonia de apertura. El Sábado 22, se llevará a cabo la corrida gratuita de niños entre 5 y 14 años en la playa. El Mini Triatlon Corporativo, donde sus familiares o amistades pueden participar gratuitamente como miembros de algunas corporaciones que no tengan suficientes miembros para completar sus equipos de relevos. Las distancias son super cortas para que cualquiera incluyendo los niños puedan completar.
El domingo 23 de Enero arrancaremos la carrera a las 7:30 am. Información sobre las partidas y actualización de los horarios serán hechos pronto en nuestro sitio de Internet.

Discovery School Photo Day
Thank you to our teachers, staff, students and parents for your support to Discovery School Photo Day and the Year Book. A Special thanks to moms Yolinda Zuniga and Ana García for providing full time assistance during three day event! Those pictures will be displayed on the year book. The DPTO has sold 172 photo packages, and raise 3,760 lps. to help funding school projects. Individual packages can still be purchased. DISCOVERY GOES GREEN SENIORS 2011
Don't forget to confirm your participation at "Adopt a Plant" this sunday, November 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please sign and send the form no later than Monday, November 8th.
We recommend that you wear appropiate clothing. Do not forget to bring your gardening tools.
No olvide confirmar su participación en el evento "Adopta una planta" este domingo 14 de noviembre de 9 de la mañana a 3 de la tarde. Fírmelo y envíelo a más tardar el lunes 8 de noviembre. Se ofrecen los siguientes paquetes:
Básico lps. 200. que incluye la foto individual (1 de 5x7, 2 de 2.5x3.5 y 4 de tamaño carné)y la grupal de 5x7. Paquetes básicos extra pueden ser ordenados por solo lps. 150
Deluxe lps. 350 que incluye todo lo del básico más una individual de 8x10 con el mensaje opcional de "Discovery School 2010-2011"
