April 4 Meeting Notes

The DPTO would like to thank parents and teachers that were able to meet on Thursday, April 4 for Fun Run-Olympics.  Below are the meeting notes. We will have our next meeting Wednesday, April 10 at 7:30am in the cafeteria. We look forward to seeing you there.

Notes
1. The Fun Run will have a semi "Olympic Games" theme. Since the 5th graders are currently studying ancient civilizations, they could also help out. We will also involve the Juniors and Seniors so that they can help out marking the areas for the different games, acting as referees and such.
2. We have to work on the publicity so that we can get as many people as possible to come to the activity. I volunteered to work on a couple of posters.
2. We will be sending a sign-up sheet at least one week in advance so that the parents can let us know if they will be involved. This will also indirectly compromise them to come.
3. There will be a L.25.00 entrance fee per person, which will include a small snack (a glass of juice, a slushee or the like). The money should be sent in advance.
4. Breakfast and other snacks will be sold separately.
5. The grades will be encouraged to come in different colors of clothing.
6. Games could include the following:
-Fun Run (Classic)
-Archery
-Soccer (in the lower field, for high-school only)
-Volleyball
-Scavenger hunt (for nursery, pre-k and kindergarten)
7. The class that completes the most laps will have an ice cream or pizza party (depending on the weather) the following week.
8. Kids will also be encouraged to look for "sponsors" in order to gather additional funds.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April  10 at 7:30am at the cafeteria. We will be discussing the following:
1. Budget and Expenses so we can have an Idea of what our goal is and how much we can expect to make in the activity.
2. Decide on the games that we will finally have.
3. Review the posters and banners.
4. Breakfast preparation.

Other issued we discussed are:
1. The main goal of this activity and the following activities is to gather funds for educational technology.
2. Parents should be introduced to Mimio products in order to gain their attention and also motivate them to help us out.
3. The school´s web page will be redesigned and will include a section for the DPTO.  Danielle, DPTO Secretary, should have a dedicated email account and the DPTO section should include general DPTO information (members, meeting and activity schedule, minutes of former meetings) and the blog.
4. We should look to establish a regular meeting schedule (ie. every Wednesday at 7:30am).
