Earlier this year, the DPTO asked for feedback,
ideas and volunteers from the parents, administrators and teachers of the
Discovery School. The online survey was
filled out by over 99 people (which is a great sample size!).
So thank you for
your feedback.
Here are the highlights of the results:
Main points:
1.
The events
that most people enjoyed in the past and/or want to see this year include: UN
DAY; Fun Run and Pancake Breakfast; Movie Night at a cinema; BBQ Afternoon;
Songfest; Garage Sale; and a couple more Parent Night Out evenings. There
was also interest in educational seminars for parents, so we will be working on
that as well.
1.
When we asked
how often you wanted to participate in school activities, about 20% said
“monthly”, 40% said “every few months”, and 20% said a “couple times a
year”. Based on this, and the activities
parents and teachers are interested in, our planned calendar generally has a
major activity once per month.
One role of
the DPTO is to help raise extra funds for the school to improve the experience
of the students. We asked you what this
year’s fundraising should be targeted towards. Your responses varied, but based
on a number of comments and further discussions, the fundraising initiative for
2013/14 will be around making the school more 'green' (recycling and composting
etc.). This received 71% of votes. Some parents are
interested in helping, and many things can be done without a lot of
fundraising.
In terms of keeping in touch with parents, you suggested that the ‘Monday Memo’ (52%) should be used to put important reminders and messages, also send separate DPTO email (47%) 'if it is important information'. We will also be updating the blog (36%), so please check that as well!
Please let us know if you have any more feedback or ideas! We will need volunteers to help with each upcoming event, so please help us out if you can!
Cheers,
Your DPTO executive team
